I 1995 blev mangaen filmatiseret til en anime-film, og nu i 2017 får mangaen en live-action filmatisering. Rupert Sanders har fået instruktørrollen. Sanders har tidligere instrueret ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’, som er den eneste anden spillefilm på hans CV. Optagelserne er i gang i New Zealand og ‘Ghost in the Shell’ instrueres af Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman). Ghost in the Shell har endnu ikke fået en dansk premieredato.
